About the event
Create a living work of art in this Kokedama moss ball workshop! This is a hands-on class; participants will learn the traditional Japanese art of kokedama, a decorative planting technique used to create intriguing indoor botanicals. With this method, a plant’s roots are wrapped in soil and moss to form a natural, sculptural ball approximately 6-7” in diameter.
Instructor Alice Stimson will guide participants in preparing a special soil mixture that holds moisture and maintains shape. Selected plants will then be embedded into the ball, covered with moss and artistically wrapped with twine or string. Alice will demonstrate display options such as hanging or decorative trays.
Essential care techniques, including watering and light requirements will be discussed. By the end of the class, each participant will leave with their own handcrafted kokedama and the know-how to create more at home!
